The dried rhizome of ginger contains approximately 1–4% volatile oils. These are the active constituents of ginger and are also responsible for ginger’s characteristic odour and taste. The pungent constituents are credited with the benefits of this food.

Ginger is a warm, settling herb. Fights inflammation. cleanses the colon, reduces spasms and cramps and stimulates circulation.Strong antioxidant and useful for nausea and vomiting.

      HABITAT AND CULTIVATION
      A native of tropical Asia but now widely grown throughout the tropics, Ginger is cultivated from division of the rootstock. It flourishes in fertile soils and needs a good rainfall. The roots are dug up when the plant is 10 months old, washed, soaked and sometimes boiled and peeled.
